AP Art Concentration // Growth & Decay

My works explore my concept through different interpretations of growth and decay and through showing sequence with my pieces. My first piece (1) is growth taken literally, the rings of a tree show each year of it’s life and like humans have scars and stretch marks. The idea of growth is more abstract with the idea of personal growth (3), learning to “speak my mind” and healing your own heart as you grow (2). The pieces stating clearly growth (5) and decay (6) act as a ying and yang as well as indicated the transition between the “contrasting” subjects. The word growth is displayed in darker text with a white background indicating how everything is moving towards decay while decay is in light colors on a black background indicating how death brings new life. From there the roles of fate (6), that we all return to the earth, ourselves in our own decay (7) and decomposers (8), which live by assisting in the decay of other organisms, are displayed. The last piece (10) encompasses this cycle, the skull of a dead deer is now giving nutrients to and housing new life.
